Statement from Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey via Age of Autism

I really think the statement from Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey in regards to Dr. Andrew Wakefield is well worth a read. Even more, I think it is well worth your time to click on the links throughout the statement.

I also think it is wise to remember that none of this is about the results per say, the retraction and all the hoopla is over methods used to get the results.

You can read the statement on Age of Autism by clicking HERE.

Even if you are someone who wouldn’t generally read from McCarthy (I know there are many who won’t) I just urge you to take a minute and give thought to what is being said. Do some research, mull it over…

Temple Grandin Movie

I don’t have HBO, but I am surely looking for a neighbor who does that can record it for me… Anyways, if you get the chance to watch this movie I would love to hear your thoughts – it plays tomorrow night (Feb 6) at 8PM.

Society’s Ignorance

I received an email this morning that really ticked me off. I considered replying to the “mommy blog” that sent it out, but after giving myself time to calm down I decided that the type of ignorance being displayed by the women who write for that blog and by the majority of those who comment on it would lend them to being completely unresponsive to intelligent thought. So here I am voicing my opinion on my blog – after all, that’s what blogs are for.

The email contained two links:

The first link was to an article about how Dr. Andrew Wakefield “faked” his results in his studies of the relationship between Autism and vaccines – most notably the MMR vaccine. “Faked” is not my term – it is theirs. Whether or not you agree that vaccines cause Autism is not the issue here. What ticks me off is that so many people don’t seem to understand that the debate about vaccines in the Autism community is not limited to the MMR – the problem is with the entire vaccine schedule and the ridiculous amounts of toxins and byproducts included in these vaccines. It starts from birth with the Hep B shot and continues on. It isn’t just thimerosal, it is also aluminum, sheep blood cells, monkey cells, chicken embryos, cells from aborted human fetal tissue, formaldehyde, and the list goes on! Don’t believe me, CLICK HERE.

The second link was to an article about the hidden dangers in cosmetics. It discussed things like formaldehyde and other toxins that are in things like your perfume or heck, your foundation! Oh no! Toxic chemicals in your lip stick!!! Seriously! This was on THE SAME BLOG!

So why was I ticked off? Because we live in a society where people are more concerned about what might be in their foundation than what they inject into their children! A society that cares about hormones injected into cattle, but not about poison injected into babies! A society concerned with pesticides on plants, but not caring about cells from aborted human fetal tissue getting injected into their kids! A society that will fight tooth and nail to remove a toxic chemical from a plastic water bottle that you drink from but that stands idly by watching known POISONS go into the bodies of their children. This is the ignorance that surrounds us!

I’m not saying don’t get vaccinated. What I’m saying is stop the hypocrisy and get informed. A commenter on that blog called the vaccine link to Autism a “hoax” – fine, if she wants to feel that way then fine. But don’t then turn around and ask me to care about what may or may not be used in the creation of your toddler’s spoon. Do you get my point here?

How can people care so much about cosmetics and plastic bottles and so little about their kids? I just don’t get it.

Mealtime Challenges

I ran across an interesting article today about mealtime challenges in people with Autism. I am no stranger to this. My son will only eat certain things (and the list is not that long) and he will only eat them at certain times of the day. Trying to get him to have something new usually results in a complete meltdown. There have been a few times where I did manage to get him to try a bite of something new only to watch him gag because he couldn’t handle the texture of a particular food.

Anyways, this article may be one you’d like to read: Mealtime a Challenge for Some with Autism
